Former U.S. Touring Car Championship driver and Grand-Am Cup newcomer Gary Sheehan drove the fastest lap of the race in the Mont-Tremblant 250 Saturday, posting a 1:47.569 on lap 8, one of 14 laps he led in the Istook-Aines Audi S4. That blistering lap was also the fastest of the weekend for the GS class, besting the pole time of 1:47.609 set in morning qualifying by teammate Anders Hainer. Former U.S. Touring Car Championship driver and Grand-Am Cup newcomer Gary Sheehan took second position in this morning’s GS qualifying, posting a fast lap of 1:47.839, which puts him on the front row for his debut Grand-Am Cup race. Sheehan temporarily held pole earlier in the session with a lap of 1:47.990, which held until late, when teammate and primary-driver Anders Hainer dove in with a 1:47.609 to snatch P1 on his second lap of the session. This stellar performance by both drivers makes it an-all Audi front row for the S4’s of Istook-Aines Motorsports. During the qualifying session, Sheehan and his teammate Hainer were the only two drivers to break into the 1:47’s. They will be followed on the grid by Borcheller/Powell in third at 1:48.108 in the Cadillac CTS-V, and Cronin/Hayner in fourth at 1:48.195, in a Nissan 350Z. Former U.S. Touring Car Championship driver and Grand-Am Cup newcomer Gary Sheehan is among the fastest in today’s GS practice sessions, posting a fastest lap of 1:48.784 in the second session to break into the top five times of the day. Driving an Audi S4 Quattro prepared by Istook-Aines Motorsports, Sheehan held third-fastest time earlier in the session, which was contested by 30 GS-class cars. Sheehan is also one of seven drivers today to break the previous track record for the class, also smashing last year’s pole time in the process.
