Sheehan Places 2nd in SCCA Spec Racer Ford
Gary Sheehan finished a very close 2nd place to race winner Rick Houston in his first SCCA Spec Racer Ford race, with a margin of victory of just 0.6 seconds. Sheehan battled with the previous year’s Texas Region SRF Champion in a downpour the entire race at Texas World Speedway. The weather turned out to be a deciding factor in the race.
“Conditions were awful”, said Sheehan after the race. “I couldn’t see a thing! The spray from Rick’s car kept me out of his draft on the oval and made visibility non-existant through the infield. Regardless, it was a close race and I pushed Rick as hard as I could. I almost had him there at the end. It was a blast!”
Sheehan’s performance is made even more impressive by the fact that this was his first SCCA Spec Racer Ford race and his first race at Texas World Speedway.
“I believe that the coaching I received at the Bridgestone Racing School really helped me adapt”, Commented Sheehan.
“The cars, track, series and competition were new for me. To finish so close to the previous Regional Champion in this class definitely feels good. I’m heading in the right direction.”
