Summary of 'Formula 2000'

Gary Sheehan had great success in the 1998 Bridgestone Racing School Formula 2000 Championship, finishing on the podium in seven of the eight races he participated in of the 12 race series. Sheehan took home three race wins, three second place finishes and one third.

“It was another good year for me in Formula 2000″, Sheehan said. “This is a great racing series to be in to continue to grow as a racing driver. The constant professional coaching and tough competition make you really strive for perfection. I feel very well prepared for moving on up in my racing career.”

Sheehan raced a total of 32 races in the Bridgestone Racing School Formula 2000 racing series with 23 podium finishes, 13 race wins, five 2nd place finishes and four 3rd place finishes.

Gary Sheehan had an outstanding season in the 1997 Bridgestone Racing School Formula 2000 Championship. Sheehan racked up a total of nine race wins, one 2nd place and one 3rd place finish out of 12 races.

“I had such a great year!”, commented Sheehan. “I worked hard and applied everything my coaches told me. This is a fantastic development series and the coaching and seat time I’m getting here is going to be invaluable for my racing career.”

Sheehan also recieved the innaugural David Preston Memorial Sportsmanship Award at the end of the season. The award is presented to the driver for best sportsmanlike conduct as voted by his fellow drivers. The award is in memory of David Preston, who was a highly regarded mechanic in the BRS Mechanic/Racing Program who was fatally injured in a highway accident.

“I was very honored to receive the David Preston Memorial Sportsmanship Award”, said Sheehan. “I have always felt that I can race hard on the track and still be a nice guy in the paddock. To be formally recognized for that by my fellow drivers is quite a feeling.”

Gary Sheehan Wrapped up his first racing season in 4th place in the the 1995 Bridgestone Racing School Formula 2000 Championship. His season consisted of 5 podium finishes, capped by the first win of his career late in the year.

“This was such a great year for me”, exclaimed Sheehan. “What a learning experience! The Bridgestone instructors were fantastic and they coached me to such a strong showing in my first racing season. Winning my first race was definitely the highlight of the year for me. I want to do more of that!”

Sheehan’s 4th place finish is more impressive due to the experience of the competition. Most had previous karting experience and several were karting champions. Sheehan had no prior racing experience and was able to overcome a steep learning curve early in the season, finishing the year with a race win, two 2nd places and two 3rd places.

Gary Sheehan put his driving skills on the line against over 100 other race car drivers and came away as one of three finalists in the Horizon Motorsports Driver Search. The finalists each win free entry into the 1995 Bridgestone Racing School Formula 2000 Championship. This 12 race series provides drivers with very close racing in evenly prepared Formula 2000 race cars and extensive professional coaching from the school’s instructors.

“This is a dream come true for me”, said Sheehan after learning he was a finalist. “The amount of seat time and quality coaching that I will get in the Bridgestone Racing School Formula 2000 series will really accelerate my development as a racing driver. To win free entry into the series is exactly the kind of break that I need at this point in my career!”

The Horizon Motorsports Driver Search is designed to find young drivers that have both the skills and attitude to learn and advance quickly. The format of the search rates drivers based objective tests such as outright speed (laptimes), and subjective tests such as smoothness, treatment of the car aConsidering over nd driver attitude both in and out of the car. Points are given for all categories and the top three scores determine the finalists.

Sheehan had no prior karting or racing experience other than a few driving schools before participating in the driver search. His entry into the Bridgestone Racing School Formula 2000 Racing Series will mark his first foray into the world of wheel to wheel racing.
